Pilates, with a little help from some springs.
The Reformer is a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage, adjustable springs and a set of straps and pulleys. The springs can add resistance to make a move harder, or support you to make it easier – so the same machine works for a first-timer and a seasoned regular.
Every class is low-impact, full-body and focused on control, building strength, flexibility and posture from the inside out.
- The carriageSlides along the frame as you push and pull – you'll lie, kneel, sit and stand on it.
- The springsYour instructor helps you set them – more for challenge, fewer for support.
- The footbarFor pushing away with your feet or hands in lots of the classic exercises.
- The strapsUsed with your hands or feet for arms, legs and core work.
Start at the beginning, grow at your pace.

Book a Reformer classIs Reformer Pilates suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our Beginner Reformer class is made for anyone who has never been on a reformer. You'll learn the fundamentals – form, alignment and how to use the machine – and classes are capped at five so your instructor can help you.
What's the difference between Reformer and mat Pilates?
Both follow the same Pilates principles. Mat Pilates uses your bodyweight and small equipment on the floor, while the Reformer adds springs, straps and a moving carriage for extra resistance and support. Want reformer-style moves at a mat price? Try Reformer on the Mat at our Horley Row studio.
Where are Reformer classes held?
All Reformer classes run at our High Street studio – 26 High Street, Horley, RH6 7BB. There's a car park directly behind the studio and free parking at Waitrose, a 2-minute walk away. Getting to High Street →
How many people are in a class?
No more than five, so you get plenty of guidance from your instructor.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable, close-fitting clothes you can move in, grip socks and a bottle of water. Grip socks are essential on the Reformer and are available to buy at the studio.
Do I need a membership?
No – there's no membership for Reformer. Book with a Pilates Apparatus pass: a single class, or blocks of 5, 10 or 20. New customers can try 3 classes for £48 – see our pricing.
I have an injury – can I do Reformer?
Please let us know about any injury or health condition on your health questionnaire and tell your instructor at the start of class. If you'd like one-to-one attention, our private sessions are tailored entirely to you.
